  • How to remove drawers on chests and dressers?
    • It is often necessary to remove drawers from a case to remove items that become stuck, or to remove the top drawer to gain accessibility to the screws that secure the top to the case sides and back when making repairs. (Note: make sure the case is free of items in the drawer and that nothing is left on top to fall.) To remove the drawer – pull the drawer until you feel a tension-stop, then place one hand in the top middle front of the drawer and one underneath in the middle and give it a quick yank – the drawer will over-ride the drawer stop and become easy to remove. Be careful not to cut your hands on the metal part of the drawer guide. (If this is a problem, see your local dealer or local handy repairman.)
  • What I need to know about Carolina Bed Frames and Rails?
    • The factory carries metal bed frames or wood & metal bed rails for all of our beds. When you’re setting up and planning your new bedroom, people often ask, do I need a bed frame or bed rails? What is the difference between these two items? Aren’t they the same? Although bed rails and bed frames are both designed to support your mattress set, they do have some major differences. Bed frames are used when all you need is support for the mattress, foundation, or box spring, such as attaching the mattress set to a HEADBOARD ONLY with no footboard. Bed rails are used to attach the mattress set to a HEADBOARD AND FOOTBOARD. When selecting bed rails, your bed set-up must require a slotted headboard and footboard with bed pins inserted from the factory that work together to catch hooks located on each end of the bed rails. Wood or metal bed rails serve basically the same purpose except when matching finishes you may prefer wood bed rails rather than metal ones. Some bed set-ups work best when using wood bed rails – ex: when using an under bed storage unit. Make sure the bed rails are designed to attach to your HEADBOARD AND FOOTBOARD. Visit our accessories web page for bed frame or bed rail products. All bed rails offered by CFW, Inc. (wood or metal) are the hook-on type and all bed frames offered by CFW, Inc. are metal and the bolt-on type. Click these links to see our bed frame   or   bed rail options, specifications and uses.

  • What if my Carolina Headboard doesn't fit my bed frame?
    • First, make sure you are using a Carolina bed frame that is bolt-on only. Then make sure the bed frame is properly set to fit the headboard you are using. Note: Bed frames from other manufacturers may not work properly when setting up to fit Carolina headboards; settings differ by manufacturer. All bed frames offered by CFW, Inc. are metal and the bolt-on type. It is best to use bed frames offered by Carolina to avoid bed set-up problems. See the bed frame options offered by Carolina Furniture Works and set up instructions. Also, see how to attach the headboard to a bed frame and the necessary tools required. If you are using the proper bed frame offered by Carolina, and have followed the above instructions, and are still having problems, please contact your dealer to make sure you are using genuine Carolina products and that product numbers match the bed set up recommendations. • Why does my Furniture Smell?
    • New furniture smell is not uncommon and may appear to take on different smells depending on how it is described by the consumer. Normally it just takes a little time for new furniture smells to wear off. Carolina products are packaged directly from the assembly line after a multi-step finishing process. Packaged furniture fresh out of the box will flash-off until new smells are neutralized. It may take a little while for the new smell to dissipate. Most often just ventilate the room affected by the smell and keep fresh air circulating. You may even open windows a few times during the first week or so to speed up the process. The new wood smell will eventually dissipate. Other options are to use an open container of baking soda to help absorb smells, or you may also spray a household odor neutralizer throughout the room where you have the new wood furniture.
  • What can be used as a replacement for box springs on a low profile bed?
    • A bunkie board is a thin platform that eliminates bulky, too-tall box springs, providing essential support for your mattress. Bunkie boards are most often used to support the mattress in a bunk bed or trundle, but also often used on low profile beds in exchange for box springs to achieve a low profile appearance. It's thinner than a conventional box spring, and provides the extra support you need without making your mattress sit too high. In terms of supplying the necessary support, the bunkie board will be just as good as a box spring. Bunkie boards are available from most mattress sources in twin, full, queen sizes.
  • What I should know about bed rail hook and pin connections?
    • Various beds manufactured by Carolina Furniture Works offer wood bed rail connections that use a hook and pin system to create a strong long lasting connection between the headboard and footboard. There are single and dual height bed set ups. Two metal pins are embedded within the head and footboards at either single or dual height positions making it easy to connect your wood rails. Single position connections only allow for one bed height adjustment. Dual height connections allow you to switch from upper height to lower height. Set the bed high for use with bed storage drawers or trundle bed or set it low for use with just a mattress and foundation. See the wood hook and pin connection photo which has been digitally enhanced to show detail and the approximate location of the pins within the bed post. To set up your bed, simply connect the rail to the headboard and footboard at the height you prefer. Note: Make sure your hook and pin connections are properly aligned and at the same height for dual height bed set up, and that the pins are securely locked into the slot and securely embedded into the bed post for a tight a secure fit. Tight fitting connections may require that you apply pressure to the top of the rail at point of connection. Be careful to place a soft barrier between any object used to apply pressure to the top of the bed rail (such as a hammer) and the wood rail so the rail does not become damaged. (a hand towel would work) Some installations may require slightly advance knowledge of installations from a local furniture store, cabinet shop, or white glove delivery service may be preferred for a professional installation.
